To achieve the right balance, the design proposes both closed and open cabinetry / pantry system. Open shelvings for cookbooks and other small appliances, or items that can be displayed to showcase the client's taste. Closed cabinetry offers ample storage as well for all the other supplies one would typically find in a kitchen for a great home cook who loves to entertain. The fridge is nicely concealed behind cabinetry door to create a seamless look.
The monolithic marble island sets the tone for the space. It is a great focal point and it truly makes a simple and timeless statement. Also it was selected in order to brighten up the kitchen and to create that light / dark balance. Alternatively, the Carrara Marble can be replaced with a synthetic one to avoid maintenance issue.
The fireplace, the flanking "neoclassical columns", the decorative paneling were the classic touches that the client wanted to have. He asked to incorporate these elements into the design drawings so we can achieve an "old world classic meets vintage" charm.
The furniture selections were quite specific to the client's taste - he knew exactly what he liked and it made the FF&E selection process fun and effortless! The only real consultation I provided here was in regards to scale; he tended to want to go quite BIG, and my job was to make sure the scale wouldn't be off and the pieces would come together harmoniously.
The master bedroom redefined - based on the old layout one would enter through a small walking closet before turning right into the bedroom, and left into the bathroom, which makes it feel very uncomfortable as one would sort of feel like he/she is just going through series of tiny spaces. The new layout proposes relocating the opening into the master bedroom slightly, therefore giving a more complete area to both the "bedroom" part as well as the "closets" area. To have a soft division between the bed / closets, a wardrobe island from Poliform is the proposed solution.
Velvety curtains, silky bedsheets with plush feather filled pillows bring richness in texture, and a sense of luxury into this master bedroom. Coupled with the dark plum paint color this really helps set the tone that the client was looking for. To bring a little more humour and fun as well into the bedroom, I proposed two table lamps in the shape of a rabbit in bronze.
